A Short River Walk
Short river walk - Prague Walking
Large map
As I have said, I like walking at night Prague. Some years ago I „discovered“ walking along the Vltava river. The first reason was to take different photos of Prague Castle at night. After this journey I have started walking along the river more often.
Starting at „Namesti republiky“ which is a nice square and there is the Metro, which is called with same name. There is the Paladium shoping center. This square is close to the river bank. From this place you can walk to river along „Revolucni Street“ and before the bridge turn left. You now have the Vltava River on your right, and on left is interesting government building department of something. So, after five minutes of walking you will see the entrance to the river bank and a place where the ships are parked. This river bank is built from stone and it is right place for walking and for bicycle. In a few minutes you will see two interesting places on the other side of the river. The first place is, where 30 years ago there was a „large monument of Stalin“ (Communist Russian politician). Today this place is for taking photos of a river scene with several Prague’s bridges. This place is also a popular area for skaters and in-line skaters. The second view from the river bank is the unusual scenery of Prague Castle.

St Nicholas Church on Lesser Town
St Nicholas Church on Lesser Town is placed between Prague Castle and Charles Bridge. This big church have robust dome and thin bell-tower and they are an inseparable part of the Prague Castle skyline. The size of „the church building“ is monumental: it is 40 metres wide and 60 metres long. Construction of church building was commenced by master-builder P.Bos who was shortly replaced by Giovanni D. Orsi. To build the church need almost 70 years, the decisive phase began only after 1702 and that according to the new variant, the authorship of which is ascribed to Kristof Dientzenhofer. He died in 1722 and the building was finished by his son Kilian I. Dienzenhofer. Construction of the Church of St Nicholas significantly contributed to the development of height Baroque architecture in Prague.

We have visited this town at Saturday. This historical city has rich history, because there were silver mines. So there is the second biggest cathedral in the Czech Republic, the Cathedral of st. Barbora who is patron of miners.

I have been traveling around the sights, castles and church a lot. Here are some photos from Jewish Town, but I have not been there, because the entrance fees CZK 300 for five synagogues and commentary. Then I’ve visited Vysehrad look-out, commentary and Church (just 30 CZK for entrance) and the nicest place was the Karlstejn castle. So here are some photos from these places.

Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is situated in the heart of Europe, on a place that has been an intersection of continental merchant routes. It was the seat of Czech princes and kings from the tenth century A.D. In the mid-14Th century, Prague was the centre of the Holy Roman Empire and Europe’s third largest city. In this time, the king Charles IV built The Charles Bridge, Charles University and many others important places, buildings or sights. As part of the Hapsburg monarchy, Prague remained the capital of Czech lands, which became the strongest part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in terms of economy during the 19Th century. Prague became the capital city of the Czech Republic at 28.10.1918, when the Czech Republic was established.
